Current weather severely impacts road network

December 19, 2016 3:54 am

Kings road is closed to all traffic.

Fiji Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer, John Hutchinson, says the current adverse weather has severe impact on our road network making the work hard for FRA and its contractors.

The first area is the flooded road in Rakiraki between the new Chinese bridge and the flying prince services station. Another area that is with real concern to us is at Kadavu where there is a land slip and that is the north of the Kasavu Baulevu road junction on the Kings road. At the moment that area is open to light vehicles only, trucks and buses are basically blocked from using the road. Unfortunately the land slip has taken a considerate proportion on the road and we are worried and we are worried if heavy trucks and buses go across the remaining portion of the road, there will be further damage and potentially loss of life.

He adds there are a number of road closures throughout Fiji as FRA closely monitors the situation.

FRA is currently working on keeping the roads open as much as possible.
