New Zealand Chef, caterer and international hospitality consultant Colin Chung is urging Fijian culinary chefs and cooks to innovate new ways to feature our local produce.

He’s advised local chefs and cooks to utilize the opportunities presented by the growing agriculture and tourism sector to promote local produce.

Chung says this may even put Fiji on the map as a destination known for its unique and local cuisine.

“If majority of the time we use our local products definitely it will be a plus for Fiji and it’s also healthier for the locals to be eating local and we are also helping the planet as it’s sustainable.”

Chung says a well presented Fijian dish with a tasty flavor will always be appreciated adding the consumption of local delicacies will not only help the tourism sector but also enable us to reduce our import bill and encourage farmers to earn more income.

Chung has assisted many of the world’s most famous hotel brands whilst cooking for some of the globe’s most famous names like Nicole Kidman, The Rolling Stones and Justin Timberlake.

He recently led a contemporary island cuisine chef training organized by the Agriculture Ministry together with the Ministry of Trade and Tourism.
