Prime Minister and Minister for Sugar Voreqe Bainimarama says there has always been extensions of the sugar cane crushing season.
However, Bainimarama says the extensions are made with limitation.
Cane farmers in the North and West are requesting for an extension to the crushing season as they still have more cane to supply to the mills.
’’We not going to do it every year and we only do it with limitation because of the funds involved in keeping the mills open. Sugar cane farmers should do their homework and get their sugar cane to the mills on time."
Crushing at the Rarawai Sugar Mill was scheduled to stop tomorrow however, following requests from farmers, it has been extended for another three days.
