Public more forthcoming with drug-related tips: Qiliho

Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho is acknowledging the assistance from members of the public in the fight against the illegal drug trade.

He says they have noticed that the public has gained more confidence to alert and give information to the Police about any suspected drug trade.

Qiliho says the public has been forthcoming recently resulting in more arrests.

The Police Chief says these are critical information which has been able to assist Police put the pieces of the puzzle together that they’ve been looking for in the past few years.

“So finally we are getting those bits of information that’s allowing us to make inroads into the system and it’s enabled us now to functionally disorientate and also disrupt their operations both functionally and situationally. We have been able to do that. And that’s going to continue to pick up. We have to maintain that momentum in order for us to make it more effective.”

The Police Commissioner says all information and tips will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality and members of the public should not fear coming forward.

Meanwhile, since January 1st, a total of 179 drug cases have been recorded compared to 90 cases in the same period last year.
