Police lay charges on five escapees, two yet to be interviewed

Charges have been laid against five prisoners who escaped from the Naboro Maximum Correction Center in the early hours of Christmas Eve.

Police confirms Ulaiasi Qalomai, Filipe Delana, Mesulame Waqabaca, Josaia Usamaki, Bainivalu Tuimatavesi have all been charged with two counts each for Damaging Property and Escaping from lawful custody.

The two other escapes Solomoni Qurai and Peniasi Qalibau are yet to be interviewed due to health condition.

Qalomai, Delana, Qalibau and Tuimatavesi are serving time for aggravated robbery, Josaia Usumaki is serving time for burglary and larceny while Solomoni Qurai and Mesulame Waqabaca are serving time for murder.

Qalomai, Delana and Mesulame Waqabaca were arrested near Wainadoi, Navua on Monday afternoon while the remaining four escapees were captured during the early hours of Christmas morning.

Qurai and Usamaki had also escaped from prison in 2012 and were involved in a theft at the BSP Samabula Branch where $70,000 was stolen.
