The Fiji Police Force is banking on the public to apprehend drug peddlers who continue to violate the law.

“And upon receiving information from the members of the public we go to other farms that have been identified for planting. So we are revisiting and at the same time we are vigorously pursuing our awareness program trying to educate members of the public about the bad effects of drugs if consumed.”

DCP Tudravu says hard drugs is becoming more prevalent and they are working with relevant organizations to curb the issue.

“It’s the same for hard drugs and also marijuana. We are working closely with our partners, the police officers from around the pacific. There is an agreement signed by New Zealand and Tonga and these are some communication channels in place so whilst we go for marijuana we are mindful about the hard drugs and our effort is also there.”

Meanwhile, Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says cutting off the main source of supply for drugs is vital. Naisoro says they had operation Cavuraka last month, and continue clamp down on peddlers and manufacturers.
