Despite several awareness and warnings, drivers are not changing their attitude and continue to violate traffic laws.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra says speeding remains a major concern, as 33 people have lost their lives due to speeding.

SSP Mishra also confirms that over 58,600 drivers have been booked for speeding so far.

“33 people have lost their lives through speeding and drunk and drive this year and 15 people have lost their life through drink and drive. This is the alarming statistics as far – life is being lost on our roads. This is just due to the negligence and recklessness of drivers.”

SSP Mishra says speed limits have been implemented for a reason.

“If you see the area, they differs, like Suva Nausori corridor there is lot of people and we are pleading if you access this corridor, you should know that the speed limit is 50 or 60kmph but here drivers have been caught driving at 80 to 100kmph. Drivers need to understand that if you are driving at that speed you are going to get into an accident.”

119,000 drivers have been penalized for violating road rules.
