A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to four years seven months imprisonment after pleading guilty to an aggravated robbery charge.
The Suva High Court heard that Timoci Tikina entered a shop in Kinoya armed with a cane knife last October and threatened an employee to hand over the cash register and his mobile phone.
The money till had over $3, 100 cash.
He fled the scene with the cash and the mobile phone after threatening the employee with death if he reported the matter.
Tikina was arrested the next day and he told the police that he spent the money on drinks, rental car and friends. The mobile phone was recovered from him.
While explaining his criminal conduct, Tikina said the shop owner was his employee and he stole from him because the owner did not pay his wages.
The Judge informed Tikina that this was not an excuse for his act.
The Judge declined to fix a non-parole period for the sentence.
