January 7, 2019 12:02 pm

Five people are in custody for allegedly assaulting on duty police officers in two separate incidents.

Chief Intelligence and Investigation, ACP Vakacegu Toduadua says in the first case a police officer from Vunidawa Police Station was stoned while attending to a report of causing disturbance on Sunday last week.

The officer received injuries on his leg and later was treated in the Vunidawa Hospital.

Three people were arrested for allegedly assaulting this police officer.

They will be produced in the Nausori Magistrates Court today.

Meanwhile, in another incident, a police officer from Korovou Police Station was allegedly assaulted while trying to wake up a man lying in the middle of the road.

The suspects allegedly tore the police officer’s uniform and reflector vest.

The two who were drunk at the time of the incident were arrested in Tailevu yesterday.

The Police Force is warning members of the public to stop assaulting police officers.
