The average number of days from a rape incident to judgment is 1,025 days or 2.8 years.

The Fiji Women’s Rights Movement Executive Director, Nalini Singh says this is according to the Sexual Violence against Women and Girls Rape Case Analysis from 2018.

Singh says the team also analyzed and compared trends from 2016, 2017 and 2018 and one of the findings was the average age of victims.

She adds the youngest victim of sexual abuse last year was a 6-month-old baby.

“The age of the majority of victims is around 17-years-old. This is consistent when we compared the data from last three years. The age of the youngest victims has also shifted. In 2016 it was 3-years-old and in 2018 it’s actually a six month old baby.”

Singh also highlighted the oldest victim was 71-years-old with the average age of rape victims 14-years-old.
