The driver alleged to have been involved in a hit and run accident that resulted in the death of a police officer has been charged.

The accused a 21-year-old man residing in Malawai has been charged with six counts which includes one count for drugs.

Police say he faces one count of manslaughter, one count of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, one count of careless driving, one count of failure to comply with requirements following an accident, one count of using motor vehicle contrary to license condition and one count of unlawful possession of an illicit drugs as marijuana was found inside the vehicle.

It is alleged that the 41-year-old victim was crossing at the Namaka traffic lights  on Wednesday night, when he was hit by a vehicle driven by the man.

He will be produced in the Nadi Magistrates Court tomorrow.
