Court Officer charged with corruption offences

A former court officer at the Sigatoka Magistrates Court has been charged with corruption-related offences.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has charged Isoa Matanitobua with five counts of false information to a public servant and five counts of general dishonest, causing a loss amounting to $1,616.

It is alleged that between 2015 and 2016 he provided the Land Transport Authority with false information relating to the records of the payment of Traffic Infringement Notice fines from five individuals.

He also allegedly received payments from these individuals and did not issue them receipts and did not even make a record of the payments made.

FICAC informed the court that first phase disclosures were served and it is not objecting to bail, however, is requesting for strict conditions.

Matanitobua has been released on $1,000 bail bond with one surety.

The matter has been adjourned to July 5th.
