Five civilians are in police custody after they were caught smuggling illegal substance to the Korovou Remand Centre yesterday.
Deputy Commissioner of Corrections Senior Superintendent, Apimeleki Taukei says these people were visiting their relatives who are in remand – when their illegal activity was caught on the CCTV camera.
Two women and three men were taken into police custody.
The items found included marijuana and tobacco leaves.
Taukei says this should serve as a deterrent as they are likely to face jail time now.
He is reminding all visitors to any Correction Centers to refrain from bringing in prohibited items during their visit.
