Driving under the influence of liquor remains a major concern for the Police Force.

The statistics reveal that fifteen Fijians have died so far this year as a result of driving under the influence of liquor.

According to the statistics provided by the Police Force, this is the highest in the last nine years.

Director Traffic, SSP Mahesh Mishra says they have beefed up their traffic operations for the festive season to ensure the safety of everyone.

SSP Mishra says drivers need to seriously change their attitude.

“Fifteen people have lost their lives through drink and drive so these are the alarming statistics as far as life is being lost on our roads. This is just because the negligence and recklessness of driver behind the wheel.”

Meanwhile, the Director Traffic confirms thirty-drivers were arrested for drink and drive over the last fortnight.
