Courts to introduce new filing system

January 26, 2018 5:23 am

The Judicial Department will be launching a new filing system, in bid to better file management of court cases.

Chief Registrar, Yohan Liyanage says the Integrated Electronic Litigation System would result in a paperless court system.

The Chief Registrar says this move follows the recent incidents of missing case files from the courts.

Liyanage adds an overseas team is currently undertaking a base line survey to determine the logistic required to move to an e-platform.

The pilot project is expected to roll out in Suva and remote locations, aimed at assisting other authorities.

“We need to cut down a lot of multiple data entries. If a person is arrested today, Police will open a file and the same file comes to Court and then the courts open another file than the prison’s will open another file. We should not have these data entries.”

Once the E-Litigation is fully implemented, information will be available to the general public on a fee.
