Woman charged for falsifying abduction claims

April 8, 2019 2:35 pm

A 19-year-old woman, alleged to have lied about being abducted, has been charged by Police.

On Saturday the accused informed police of her alleged abduction by three unknown men from the Lautoka Wharf.

She claimed she was taken to a house in Nadi where she was drugged and sexually assaulted before managing to escape to a nearby cane field where she sought help from neighbours and asked for clothes and money.

On entering the Lautoka Police Station she reported the matter personally and officers were deployed to conduct a preliminary investigation.

During that investigation, her claims could not be verified and witnesses have alleged seeing her in Lautoka City, while medical reports soon proved the sexual assault claims to be false.

The accused faces one count of giving false information to a public servant and will appear in Lautoka Magistrates Court this afternoon.
