Twin brothers charged with assaulting police officers appear in court

The twin brothers, Ratu Veiwili Loanakadavu and Ro Veidovi Loanakadavu

Twin brothers charged with serious assault, drunk and disorderly behavior, and resisting arrest appeared at the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Ratu Veiwili Loanakadavu and Ro Veidovi Loanakadavu are charged with one count each of drunk and disorderly and resisting arrest.

Ratu Veiwili is also charged with two counts of serious assault while Ro Veidovi is also charged with one count of damaging property.

It is alleged that on December 14, 2018, in Suva, the brothers while drunk, behaved in a disorderly manner.

It is also alleged that on the same day, they both resisted arrest.

On December 14, 2018, in Suva, Ratu Veiwili allegedly assaulted a police officer who was on duty.

Ro Veidovi is alleged to have unlawfully and willfully damaged the accessory vest belonging to one of the arresting officers worth $151.80.

The Defence Counsel told the court that the transcript of the video recording was not given to the defense team for all three files.

The Defence also sought the clarification on DPPs representation in the matter as it was to be handed over to DPP’s office.

The matter has been adjourned to April 29.

Bail for both the accused persons has been extended.
