Six men who raped a woman have been sentenced to 11 years and 9 months imprisonment.
The perpetrators and the victim who are all from the same village were drinking together on the day of the incident in March 2015.
The woman had gone to sleep when she became too drunk, and the men then took turns to rape her.
She gave evidence that because of her state, she was in no condition to defend herself.
The Lautoka High court in handing down the sentence stated that the six men caused the victim embarrassment as the whole village looks down on her and blame her for bringing shame to the community. She also has fearful flashbacks of the incident.
The Court also states the perpetrator’s actions can only be described as disgusting, selfish and lustful.
All six must serve a minimum of 9 years before parole.
