Thirty-five-year-old Rozleen Razia Khan convicted of one count of murder will be sentenced by the Suva High court tomorrow afternoon.

Her sentencing and mitigation hearing was held in the Suva High court.

Defense counsel Gavin O’Driscoll said this case has been difficult for him as he also has children who are in the same age group as Khan’s children.

O’Driscoll asked the court to consider Khan’s troublesome married life and her circumstances. He also asked the court not to impose a minimum term as they will be able to make an application to the Mercy Commission.

The prosecution asked for a minimum term highlighting that the range is from 26 to 11 years.

The state also said that Khan did not show any remorse.

On May 6th last year, Khan tried to drown her four-year-old daughter by driving her car off the road near Kasavu, Nausori. When this failed, she then jumped into the Rewa River with the child tied to her.

Judge Justice Vincent Perera convicted Khan on Tuesday after the unanimous guilty verdict of the three assessors.

Khan will be sentenced at 2.30pm tomorrow.
