A 44-year- old woman who was raped and impregnated by her stepfather has finally received justice after 27-years.

The court heard that the man started raping his step daughter when she was in class seven.

The incident happened in a village in Naitasiri from 1990 to 1994.

The victim was 14-years-old when the heinous crime was committed on her.

The man raped her two to three times a week until she got pregnant and gave birth to his child at the age of around 18- years.

The High court judge while sentencing the man said that he had subjected the complainant to a campaign of rape.

The judge said the man took advantage of the victim’s vulnerability, helplessness and naivety.

The court also noted that these offenses were carried out in the victim’s home where she should have felt safe.

The 63-year-old man has two biological children with the complainant and seven step children from his wife.

He has been sentenced to 14-years imprisonment with a non-parole period of 9-years, however considering the time spent in remand he will serve 13- years behind bars with non-parole period of 8-years.
