The Employment Relations Tribunal has terminated the proceedings between the National Workers Union and the Water Authority following a lengthy hearing this afternoon.

The matter was taken up to the tribunal to resolve the issue between the Water Authority and its employees whose contracts ended on April 30th.

National Workers Union General Secretary Felix Anthony maintained in court that some of the workers received their letters a day before their contracts expired.

The lawyers for Water Authority admitted in court that in relation to one particular employee her termination notice was handed on April 25th while she should have been given two weeks minimum notice.

They also informed the court that a circular was issued by the Authority to forewarn the employees of their contracts coming to an end.

Resident Magistrate Andrew See has made several recommendations.

The tribunal has ordered the parties including senior management at the Water Authority to undertake an extensive review of the outstanding issue.

It has also ordered the parties to resolve any compliance concerns that may have arisen as a result of the termination of the workers as of 30th April.

The tribunal also ordered that all the other matters raised by the union in relation to a collective agreement and the employment issue to be taken up with the arbitration court.
