Opposition MP Nawaikula pleads not guilty to careless driving charges

SODELPA MP and lawyer Niko Nawaikula has pleaded not guilty to careless driving charges.

SODELPA MP and lawyer Niko Nawaikula has pleaded not guilty to careless driving charges.

He appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon.

A bench warrant was issued as Nawaikula did not appear in court since February 27th.

Nawaikula is charged with one count of careless driving and one count of failure to comply with requirements following an accident.

He was questioned and charged at the Nabua Police Station on 15th June last year.

Nawaikula allegedly hit a vehicle along Ratu Mara Road in Nabua on 31st May last year.

The incident happened at around 8 o’clock in the morning.

Following the accident, Nawaikula also allegedly took off and failed to check for the damage to the complainant’s vehicle.

It was then reported to Police.

Nawaikula’s case will be recalled on November 13th this year to fix a hearing date.
