One acquitted, one guilty of manslaughter

The Suva High Court has acquitted one man and found another guilty of manslaughter.

Kiriata Nangintabuariki and William Peter Pickering were charged for one count each of murder in 2017 but Pickering was acquitted today.

Nangintabuariki’s charges were amended and he was found guilty of a lesser charge of manslaughter.

The two appeared before Judge Justice Chamath Morais today.

The court heard that Nangintabuariki murdered a 30-year-old man in Vuninokonoko, Navua in September 2017.

The incident happened during a drinking party.

The case will be recalled on March 21st for the sentence hearing.

Nangintabuariki has been further remanded.
