No closing submissions for John Nikolic’s case

February 19, 2019 1:00 pm

Both counsels in the case of John Nikolic have waived their right to make closing submissions.

State lawyer, Lee Burney was intended to make his closing submission today, however, he informed the court that he won’t be doing so.

Burney said on fairness to the case he will not be making a submission due to John’s position.

The State adds that this is because John has practised his right to remain silent and further waived his right to making a closing submission.

John is charged with two counts of importing an illicit drug with two alternative counts of possessing an illicit drug.

He is also charged with a count of possessing arms and ammunition without holding an arms license.

John was arrested after authorities seized 13 bricks of cocaine weighing 15 kilograms as well as ecstasy tablets with an estimated value of $30 million from their yacht.

The Judge will sum up the case next week Thursday.
