Mother charged for falsifying abduction bailed

A 19-year-old mother who is alleged to have lied about being abducted was granted bail by the Lautoka Magistrates Court today.

Atilaite Kali Turaga is charged with one count of giving false information to a police officer.

Turaga is alleged to have informed police of her abduction by three unknown men from the Lautoka Wharf on Saturday.

She claimed she was taken to a house in Nadi where she was drugged and sexually assaulted before managing to escape to a nearby cane field where she sought help from neighbours and asked for clothes and money

Turaga later reported the matter to a police officer who was on duty at the Sexual Offense Unit.

She informed the police officer that she was sexually abused.

The 19-year-old will reappear on the 27th of next month.
