A man who allegedly conspired to overthrow the Government in 2011 appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court this morning.

It’s alleged that Apete Vereti urged Waisea Kaloumaira to burn Suva City between September and December in 2011.

Vereti is charged with one count of urging political violence.

Vereti was charged with two other people, however, the charges against the other two were dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Vereti’s trial was supposed to start in the Suva Magistrates court in June last year, however, he failed to turn up in court.

A bench warrant was issued against him last year along with the State’s main witness Waisea Kaloumaira.

The matter has been adjourned to March 15th.

Vereti’s bail has been extended.
