Man sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for raping wife

The Suva High Court has sentenced a man to ten years and nine months imprisonment for raping his wife.

Judge Justice Chamath Morais while sentencing the man from Navua said the incident has had a lasting impact on the victim.

The Judge said rape is the most serious crime and the court denounces such practices.

The man entered a not-guilty plea from the start but the three assessors found him guilty.

The man was found guilty for one count of criminal intimidation, one count of assault with intent to commit rape and two counts of rape.

The court also heard that the incident happened on 1st June 2013.

A non-parole period of nine years and nine months has been set.
