A 54-year-old driver involved in an accident in Suva over the weekend will be produced at the Suva Magistrates courts this morning.

He has been charged with one count of dangerous driving and one count of driving whilst there was a concentration of alcohol beyond the excess limit present in his blood.

The investigation file will also be forwarded to the DPP’s office for a legal opinion to look into whether more charges will be laid based on the findings of the post mortem examination.

The findings revealed that the victim’s death was not directly caused by any injury sustained during the accident.

This will be subject to the DPP’s legal opinion.

The accident occurred along Nasese in Suva where the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the road at Gardiner Place.

A team from the Totogo Police Station managed to rescue the driver and the passenger from the vehicle which was partially submerged in water.

The passenger was rushed to the CWM Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.
