Man charged for murder refutes caution interview

A 34-year-old Levuka man charged with murder yesterday informed the court that the translation of his I-taukei caution interview was never read to him.

Tevita Deve is charged with one count each of murder and assault causing actual bodily harm.

Deve also told the court that he was not even given a chance to amend the written interview and was sworn at by the officers.

He also stated that he was interview in I’Taukei and an English translation was made which was misinterpreted.

He has pleaded not-guilty to all charges.

The state while responding to this stated that they will be calling the witnessing and interviewing officer during the trial.

It is alleged that on March 4th, 2018, Deve assaulted his 21-year-old wife and murdered her by making her drink paraquat.

The alleged incident happened at Naikorokoro Village in Levuka, Ovalau.

The case will be recalled on September 30th while the two weeks trial will start from November 4th.
