The Magistrates Court has asked the Suva Remand Centre to explain why an accused person charged with Jone Vakarisi was released.

Before starting the hearing Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara asked about Jese Sirovi who was not present in court today.

The court was then told that he was a convicted prisoner and is no longer in the Remand Center.

The prosecution has been given time until 2.30pm to file a submission stating why Sirovi was released.

The Magistrate also stated that if the prosecution is not able to give valid reasons for the release, he will have no other option but to release all accused persons.

Jone Vakarisi and eight others have been charged with failing to produce a driving license, failing to obey traffic direction, dangerous driving, and criminal intimidation, damaging property, and resisting arrest.

The incident happened near the Mead Road Housing complex in Nabua, Suva last August.

It’s alleged the suspects attacked three police constables and a special constable who was on patrol in Nabua.

The case will be recalled at 2.30pm.
