LTA officer fronts court for alleged bribery

A Land Transport Authority employee appeared in the Lautoka Magistrate’s Court this afternoon facing a corruption-related charge.

Apenisa Vunibola is charged by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption charged with one count of bribery.

It’s alleged that the enforcement officer accepted $300 from an individual in January last year.

FICAC served first phase disclosures and there were no objections to bail – granted that strict conditions were imposed.

The Magistrate released the accused on bail, issued a stop departure order and instructed him to report to the FICAC Lautoka office every Friday.

He was also warned not to re-offend or interfere with prosecution witnesses.

The matter has been adjourned to March 8th to check on the second phase disclosures.
