Investigative officer takes stand on Australian couple’s drug trial

Another state witness took the stand today at the Suva High Court regarding the case of an Australian couple.

The Australian couple is allegedly involved in drug-related offenses.

Investigating Officer Corporal Aten Prasad informed the court that John Nikolic who was the captain of the yacht attempted suicide on the day of the arrest.

Prasad says that he was informed about this incident from one of the customs officers at the scene.

Prasad says on June 22nd last year, while arriving at the scene, he saw John Nikolic lying motionless next to his wife

Yvette Nikolic and another crew member were crying beside him.

The court also heard that Prasad signed off on a couple of drug bars, guns, and cash that was found in the yacht – after it was sealed by customs.

The two are jointly charged with two counts each of importing an illicit drug with two alternative counts of possessing an illicit drug.

They are also charged with a count each of possessing arms and ammunition without holding an arms license.

The couple was arrested after authorities seized 13 bricks of cocaine weighing 15 Kilograms as well as ecstasy tablets with an estimated value of $30 million from their yacht.
