Two facing corruption charges bailed

A former officer from the Registrar of Titles and a law clerk appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today facing corruption-related charges.

Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption has charged Ravikashwar Chand with one count of falsification of documents.

Hemant Kumar is charged with one count each of giving information derived from false documents, obtaining financial advantage and fraudulent falsification of accounts.

It is alleged that Chand falsified the transfer of the title lease number.

Kumar is alleged to have given false information from a false document to an individual regarding the title and obtained $2,750.

It is alleged that he further falsified the receipts for his former law firm by altering the entries.

FICAC Senior State Counsel Sam Savumiramira informed the Court that first phase disclosures were served and requested strict bail conditions.

Resident Magistrate Josefa Daurewa released the two on strict bail conditions.

The duo was released on $2000 bail with two sureties in the same sum.

They have been ordered not to re-offend, not to change their address and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.

The duo has been ordered to report to the FICAC office on the last Friday of every month.

A Stop Departure Order has also been imposed.

The matter has been adjourned to February 3rd next year.
