Former Police officers charged with aggravated robbery

Two former police corporals, Keperieli Ketewai and Luke Tavailai appeared in the Suva High Court

Two former police corporals, Keperieli Ketewai and Luke Tavailai appeared in the Suva High Court this morning.

The two are each charged with one count of aggravated robbery.

It’s alleged the two along with a serving prisoner, Josaia Warodo robbed a 38-year-old businessman in Kadavu in April last year.

They stole assorted items valued at $1,580 including a mobile phone, a return boat ticket and two bags of money.

The second accused Warodo pleaded guilty to the charge while the two corporals pleaded not guilty.

Ketewai and Tavailai have since been suspended from the force pending their criminal proceedings.

In court today, the State served proposed agreed facts to the defense and alluded they will present eight witnesses for proper trial.

The DPP also informed the court that Warodo has agreed to give evidence as a State witness against the two former Police officers.

Bail has been extended.

The case will be recalled on the 26th of this month to fix a trial date.
