FICAC’s application to transfer case to high court deferred

An application made by FICAC to transfer the case of two former employees of Water Authority of Fiji to the High Court has been deferred to next month.

Laisiasa Valesu and Pauliasi Waite Simione are charged with corruption related offences.

The former WAF Land Acquisition Officer Valesu faces one count each of abuse of office, forgery and obtaining a financial advantage.

It is alleged that he facilitated the processing of false payments amounting to $334,496.18 as claims for Crop and Land Compensation for the Muanikau 5G Project and Nabukalou projects.

Simione is alleged to have aided Valesu to commit the offence and obtained a financial advantage of $26,402.38.

The offence occurred between 1st June 2013 and 31st May 2016 in Suva.

The ruling on the application for the matter to be transferred to High Court will be done on February 20th.

Bail has been extended for both accused.
