Nadi driver involved in fatal hit and run remanded

The 21-year-old driver alleged to have been involved in a hit and run accident has been remanded by the Nadi Magistrates Court.

The accident  resulted in the death of a police officer

Viliame Korokotabuivalu appeared today before Magistrate Peni Dalituicama charged with six counts including a count of possession of illicit drugs.

Korokotabuivalu faces one count of manslaughter, one count of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, one count of careless driving, one count of failure to comply with requirements following an accident, one count of using motor vehicle contrary to license condition and one count of unlawful possession of an illicit drugs as marijuana was found inside the vehicle.

He has also been told by the Magistrate to apply for his bail at the Lautoka High Court in his next appearance.

It is alleged that Korokotabuivalu hit a 41-year-old man who was crossing at the Namaka traffic lights last Wednesday night.

The case will be called again on the 23rd of this month.
