Defense lawyer claims clients rights breached

The defense counsel for a man facing aggravated burglary and theft charges has raised concern that his client was kept more than 48 hours in custody before being produced in court.

Abhay Singh says this is becoming a norm and alleged that police are breaching their powers.

The man allegedly robbed a restaurant located at the Damodar City Complex in Laucala Bay last month.

A report was lodged with Raiwaqa Police when cash worth up to $14,000 was discovered missing from the company safe.

Prosecution informed the court that $800 was recovered from the accused at the time of the arrest.

The defense has applied for bail and prosecution has been given time till Friday to respond to the application.

The matter has been adjourned to 20th March for bail hearing.

The man has been further remanded in custody.
