Businessman sentenced to 17-years imprisonment

A 44-year-old businessman from Nadi has been sentenced to 17-years imprisonment by the Lautoka High Court.

Peniasi Sukanakoniferedi was found guilty of one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs namely methamphetamine which weighed over four kilograms.

Sukanakoniferedi was also found guilty of one count of unlawful possession of controlled chemicals namely pseudoephedrine which weighed close to two kilograms and one count of unlawful possession of control equipment namely a single punch tablet press machine.

The court heard that these substances were seized from Energy Supplements Fiji Limited, located at the Nadi Airport on 22nd March 2014.

The man was the Company’s director at the time.

The court also heard he was well aware of the existence of all these items because he led the police to these items.

A non-parole period of 12 years has been set.
