Bail denied for Canadian national charged with drug offences

Bail has been denied for the 24-year-old Canadian national charged with drug-related offences.

Joshua Aziz Rahman appeared before Suva High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar this morning.

During his bail ruling, Justice Goundar says the prosecution has a strong case against the accused.

The prosecution says the accused is a foreigner and it will not be in the interest of justice to grant bail.

The state has been given 14 days to file proposed agreed facts and defense have been advised to respond within 14 days.

The state says they will be relying on the caution interview.

Rahman has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

It is alleged that on February 14th, 39 bars of a white substance was recovered from his home in Caubati, Nasinu during a raid which weighed 39.5 kilograms.

The bars were later tested positive for cocaine with an estimated street value of $31 million

The matter has been adjourned to April 30th for a pre-trial conference.
