Baba pleads not guilty

August 14, 2019 12:50 pm

Social Democratic Liberal Party member Jale Baba pleaded not guilty in the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Baba was charged by FICAC last October with one count of making a False Statement for allegedly publishing falsified Voter Lists and other false information related to that list on Facebook last year.

Today was the second time he appeared in court after being charged, as he suffered from a stroke and was just recently declared fit to take his plea and partake in court proceedings after an evaluation conducted by a St Giles Hospital Medical Superintendent.

FICAC Senior State Counsel Francis Puleiwai informed the Court that there are admissions and did not object to the accused being excused from the next court date due to his condition.

The matter has been adjourned to 11 September 2019 to fix a hearing date.
