Alleged rapist willing to become a state witness

A 50-year-old senior church pastor who is facing rape charges today indicated in court that he is willing to become a state witness.

Sakiusa Nakutoro is charged with one count of rape.

Nakutoro is charged along with the forty-six-year-old pastor, Waisake Tulavu.

Tulavu is charged with four counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

The two allegedly raped three church members aged 22, 29 and 32 in Cunningham, Nasinu.

All cases were reported to police in November last year.

Nakutoro today informed the court that he is not admitting to the charges.

He said he had seen Tulavu and one of the complainants together and proposed to become a state witness.

The State lawyer said they will consider the proposal.

Nakutoro also applied for bail.

The matter has been adjourned to Monday for the bail hearing.
