Alleged murder case transferred to the High Court

Two men facing murder charge have had their case transferred to the Suva High Court.

The Magistrate noted that murder is an indictable offence and must be trialled in the High court jurisdiction.

Apisai Lomani and Leone Naisake are alleged to have caused the death of Filipe Loloma in Wailialia Farm in Kadavu.

The incident happened on Boxing Day where the duo are alleged to have engaged in reckless conduct of assault, resulting in the death of Loloma.

In court today, Defense counsel alluded to make a formal bail application, however, has not been able to do so because Police prosecution failed to serve disclosures.

In the last sitting on January 5th, the Magistrate had instructed prosecution to serve disclosures before the next sitting.

Meanwhile, Lomani is also charged with a count of unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs.

It is alleged on December 30th in Kadavu, Lomani cultivated 23 plants of Indian hemp also known as marijuana weighing at 10.5kg.

Disclosures are yet to be served for this matter as well.

The case will be recalled on January 31st.
