Alleged marijuana farmer to go on trial

Trial date for a man charged with cultivating marijuana will be fixed next month.

The state has informed the court that they will not be relying on a caution interview.

It is alleged that Malakai Bola Smith cultivated 283 plants of marijuana weighing 16 kilograms.

He has been charged with one count of unlawful cultivation of illicit drugs.

The alleged incident occurred on June 10th last year in Kadavu.

The state has informed the court that they will be calling in nine witnesses during the trial.

The state has also requested for one month’s time to file all disclosures and information.

The case will be recalled on August 13th to fix a trial date.
