A 56-year-old man found guilty of raping his 40-year old niece has been sentenced to seven years and seven months imprisonment.

The court heard that on 17th October last year, the accused raped the victims who used to stay with him in Nabua.

The accused was found guilty of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault.

Judge Justice Thusara Rajasinghe said that the uncle breached the trust of his niece and took advantage of her vulnerability.

During the trial, the man also pleaded guilty to the charges.

A non-parole period of five years and five months has been set.
