28 people charged with serious sexual offences in March

Twenty-eight people have been charged with a total of fifty-eight counts of serious sexual offences in the month of March.

Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions states the offences include thirty-six rape cases, one abduction with intent to have carnal knowledge, one attempted defilement and twenty cases of sexual assault.

There were 30 victims of whom 19 were under the age of 18 years.

Of the 30 victims, 1 was male and 29 were female victims.

A 23-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 10-year-old nephew.

Of the 28 people charged, a 13-year-boy was charged with the rape and sexual assault of a 6-year-old girl.

The accused and victim are from the same village and attend the same school.

There were 15 incidents where the victims and the accused were related to one another.

There were two separate incidents where a 27-year-old and a 47-year-old father were charged with the rape of their 4-year-old and 17-year old daughter.

A 48-year-old man was charged with the rape and sexual assault of his 6-year-old and 7-year-old grandnieces.

A 62-year-old man was charged with the rape of his 4-year-old grandniece.

This matter was withdrawn due to witness interference.

Meanwhile, there was a 60-year-old man who was charged with the sexual assault of his two 12-year-old granddaughters.

This matter was withdrawn after the accused who was a serving prisoner died.
