A 22-year old tertiary student alleged to have assaulted a police officer in Lautoka has been charged with one count of serious assault.

He will be produced in the Lautoka Magistrates Court today.

The student allegedly assaulted a police officer along Tavakubu Road in Lautoka on Friday night.

The suspect’s vehicle was seized by the victim and another officer on Friday night as he was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

It is alleged the suspect followed the victim, and when he saw the officer driving his private vehicle towards the Lautoka Police Station, he confronted him and committed the alleged offence.

Meanwhile, investigations into the other alleged attacks in Nasinu and Vatuwaqa continue.
