21-year-old alleged murderer further remanded

A 21-year-old man charged with one count of murder has been further remanded by the Suva High Court.

It is alleged that on February 4th this year, he used an axe and killed a security officer in Navua while he was sleeping.

State lawyer today informed the court that the accused admitted to the offense stating that he was trying to be David and killed the security officer whom he referred to as Goliath.

In his admission, the accused also stated that he killed the security officer because he practiced witchcraft.

The state has also requested a psychiatric assessment of the accused.

The court was also informed that during the time of the offense, the accused was serving a suspended sentence for aggravated robbery.

The state has been given 30 days to file information and disclosures.

The matter will be recalled on April 29th for a plea.
