The State has informed the Suva High Court that a man who allegedly murdered a security officer earlier this year is not fit for trial.

The man, in this case, is 21-year-old Fabiano Dakai who is charged with one count of murder.

It’s alleged he killed the man using an axe in Waidradra, Navua on February 4th.

The incident happened while the victim was sleeping.

Dakai underwent psychiatric evaluation as part of a court order and today, the state informed the court about his results.

The report states that Dakai is not fit to take part in the court proceeding as he is mentally unstable.

The state adds this result will now require an inquiry to determine whether Dakai will remain in the remand center or be admitted to the Saint Giles hospital.

The Defense told the court that Dakai’s medication can be provided to him at the remand center.

However, the court raised concerns that keeping the accused in remand could be a risk to other lives.

Meanwhile, in an earlier sitting, the State had informed the court the accused had admitted to the offense.

Dakai revealed he tried to be David and killed the security officer whom he referred to as Goliath.

Goliath is described in the Christian biblical Book of Samuel as a Philistine giant defeated by the young David in single combat.

Also in his admission, Dakai claimed he killed the man because he practised witchcraft.

The matter has been adjourned to June 10th for the State to decide whether they will proceed with the charge.
