Court receives closing submissions in alleged rape case

The prosecution and the defense today gave their closing submissions in relation to a case where a 28-year-old man of Nausori is alleged to have raped his 14-year-old neighbor last year.

The defense in their closing address highlighted there were inconsistencies in the evidence given by the victim and the mother.

The man is charged with one count of rape, one count of attempted rape and one count of indecent assault.

It’s alleged the man raped the 15- year-old girl on February 13th.

It’s also alleged the man attempted to rape and indecently assault the girl on April 30th last year.

The defense lawyer Jitendra Reddy said his client chose to testify and his evidence were consistent with the statement given to the police.

He also said there will be inconsistencies in evidence when it is made up.
