Taking services to the people was a dream come true and a pleasant surprise for Apisai and Timaima Daveta from Naisisili Village who were legally married after receiving their civil marriage certificate in Yasawa.
This was made possible through the ‘REACH Programme ’ by the Ministry of Women and working in collaboration with Births, Deaths Marriage section under the Ministry of Justice.
REACH mobile service delivery’ raises people’s awareness on the rights enshrined in Fiji’s Constitution and provides social, economic and legal services by the relevant service providers at the doorstep of the people in Fiji.
Daveta says they’d been planning to tie the knot for a few months but between work and the expense of going to the mainland, they hadn’t been able too until the service was brought to them at Naisisili village.
Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa was also part of this civil marriage noted that through the REACH program, a number of government services could be carried out in remote and rural areas ensuring all Fijians have access.
The REACH team is expected to be in the Yasawa group of Islands for another week before they complete their outreach program.
